Please be advised that each learner is required to return their textbooks by the end of
the academic year. In the event that a textbook has not yet been returned, kindly ensure its return when collecting Report Cards on Wednesday. Furthermore, it is important to note that if a textbook is deemed damaged—defined as a textbook that is lost, irreparable, or rendered unusable due to pages being torn out—a refund of R250 will be required. Additionally, damaged textbooks with torn covers should be repaired.
Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Celebrating Academic Excellence.

I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the learners who participated in the recent award ceremony. This event not only honored individual achievements but also celebrated the collective spirit of perseverance, dedication, and hard work present among all the participants.

It is essential to recognize the commitment that each learner has demonstrated throughout their academic journey. The countless hours spent studying, the challenges faced, and the determination shown to overcome obstacles have culminated in this moment of achievement. Awards are not merely symbols of success; they reflect the transformative power of education and the pursuit of knowledge.

I would also like to thank Doxa Deo for their hospitality and that we could host our award ceremony at their beautiful facility. From the school’s side, there are a few focus areas for October/November.

1. Assessment plan

Please take note that the Examination / Controlled Test dates had to change after we received new information on the starting dates from the district. Please find the latest time table attached. With the exams that start on 11 November, there is still two weeks for the learners to ensure they understand everything and ask questions where necessary. Academics must get full attention now.

2. Learners and cell phones.

It is important that you as parent monitor your learner’s phones on a regular basis. You as parents are responsible for their actions that they take on social media and the messages they send. Please make sure that there is no WhatsApp groups. The school does not approve any grade groups.

Newsletter - 21 October

Dear Parents and Guardians

School Closure on October 24th.

After consulting with the district, I am writing to inform you that our school will be closed on 24 October 2024 in order to host our annual Award Ceremony.

We believe that this ceremony not only honours our learners but also fosters a sense of community and pride within our school. It’s a wonderful opportunity for parents, teachers, and learners to come together and celebrate success!

Please make the necessary arrangements for your child(ren) for that day, as the school will not be operational.

Bullying/Fighting

Bullying is a pervasive issue that affects learners of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. It can be defined as intentional aggressive behaviour that is repetitive and involves an imbalance of power or strength. Bullying can take many forms, including physical violence, verbal harassment, social exclusion, and cyberbullying, making it a multifaceted problem.

Addressing bullying requires a collective effort from society as a whole. Everyone plays a crucial role in fostering a safe environment for learners.

At present, the school is unfortunately experiencing a considerable amount of aggression, with learners engaging in confrontations without apparent cause. While differences among learners are natural, it is imperative that we respect each individual’s perspectives.

I strongly encourage parents to engage in discussions with their children regarding appropriate ways to navigate situations where opinions diverge, emphasizing the importance of resolving conflicts without resorting to violence. It is also advisable to regularly review your child’s phone in order to ensure that there are no inappropriate activities occurring on social media platforms.

Consequently, the school has elected to invite professionals to speak with the learners on Monday, 21 October, about bullying and thereby enabling us to provide assistance and support where feasible.

Time
It is imperative for parents to adhere to the school schedule. The school commences at 07:25 and concludes at 13:50. Parents are kindly requested to make the necessary arrangements to collect the learners promptly. Numerous learners are left waiting in the parking area until 17:00. The welfare of the learners must be our foremost priority, and their safety is of paramount concern. We urge parents to assist the school in this matter.

We appreciate your understanding and support in making this upcoming week a success. Thank you for being an integral part of our school community! If you have any questions or require further information, feel free to reach out.

Dear Parents/Guardians

As we approach the conclusion of Term Three, it is an opportune moment to reflect on the journey we have undertaken over the past few months. This period has been marked by academic, personal growth and collective advancement. With the end of this term, a short rest awaits us all.

Term Three has been characterized by a range of challenges and opportunities that have fostered both individual and communal development. Learners have engaged in all of their subjects, each contributing to their intellectual and emotional side. Learners were equipped with tools that will serve them well beyond the walls of the classroom.

The forthcoming short rest is essential in this context. It provides an invaluable opportunity for both learners and educators to step back from all of the demands. During this holiday, individuals can engage in various activities that promote well-being. Whether it is spending time with family, pursuing hobbies or simply enjoying the tranquility of a break from routine, these moments are crucial for recharging one’s mental and emotional batteries.

With this said. The school will close on Friday, 20 September 2024 at 10:00.

This transitional period can bring about feelings of uncertainty and lethargy, making it more important than ever to stay motivated. During the month of August, many individuals may find themselves lacking the motivation to push through challenges or pursue their ambitions. One way to maintain motivation during the month of August is to set specific, achievable goals for yourself. By breaking down your larger objectives into smaller, manageable tasks, you can create a sense of progress and accomplishment that will keep you motivated. Additionally, setting deadlines for your goals can provide a sense of urgency and help to keep you on track.

We celebrate the new principal’s birthday and get a Funky Socks Day

By Yvonne Smal

It brings us great joy to extend warm wishes to Mr. D. Evans on his recent birthday celebration.

Since joining our school this year, Mr. Disney Evans has seamlessly integrated into our school culture, demonstrating unwavering commitment to our learners and staff. His vision to elevate Centurion Primary to new heights has already left a lasting impression on us all.

On the 13th of March, 2024, we had the pleasure of commemorating Mr. Evans’ special day. Staff members came together to express their appreciation by presenting him with a heartfelt gift and sharing in a jubilant rendition of “Happy Birthday” in the staffroom. Mr. Evans, in his gracious manner, conveyed his gratitude for the Centurion Primary family, emphasizing that there was no other place he’d rather celebrate.

Later, during assembly, our learners had the opportunity to join in the festivities. Through songs, poems, and dances, they showcased their admiration for Mr. Evans, presenting him with touching letters and artwork. Mr. Evans, in return, took the time to visit each grade, capturing memories with our enthusiastic learners.

As a gesture of his appreciation, Mr. Evans generously granted the learners a “Funky Socks’ Day” on the following Friday, the 15th of March, 2024. The creativity displayed by our students was truly remarkable, with a myriad of colorful and whimsical sock designs on full display.

The spirit of celebration and unity that permeated throughout the day serves as a testament to the strong bond we share as a school community. As we reflect on this memorable occasion, we eagerly anticipate many more birthdays to be celebrated with equal fervor at Centurion Primary School.
